Want to spend some time saddling and brushing your horse before heading out on a trail ride? Then this is the ride for you!

Saddle and Brush Your Horse

Grab a coffee on the road and be here by 8:20 am to help the wranglers get ready for the day! You’ll start off by meeting and learning how to brush your horse. Then our wranglers will teach you how to put the saddle on and get your horse ready to ride. After that, you will be helped onto the back of your horse and you and your fellow adventurers will head out to watch the world wake up.

Because we want you to get the most out of this experience, space is limited. Although you will share the trail ride with any other early-risers who chose to join us on the trail, the 30 minutes before your ride is extremely exclusive. Use this time to brush your horse and connect with them one-on-one!

This approximately 90-minute experience is suitable for anyone aged 10 years and up. We ask that guests between the ages of 10 and 13 are accompanied by an adult. The experience includes 30 minutes of brushing and saddling your assigned horse followed by the 9:00 am one-hour “Family-Friendly Horseback Ride”. The horseback ride is suitable for children and first-time riders, who will enjoy a meandering walk through the valleys and hilltops outside of Fort Collins, Colorado.

The trail ride leaves from the Stables at Gordon Creek by Tattered Saddle in Livermore, Colorado – only 45 minutes from downtown Fort Collins, 55 minutes from Laramie, Wyoming and 20 minutes from beautiful Red Feather Lakes!

Joining our one-hour trail ride is based on your ability to get on the horse with our instruction, and your willingness to follow direction on the trail. If you think you can do those things, we’ll take care of the rest!

Tattered Saddle is all about turning your ride into your ride.

Want to enjoy this experience with a bigger group? Are you not much of a morning person and would prefer to do this later in the day? What if your one-hour ride included lunch? We can add time to your experience, transport a “bring-your-own” picnic, and even arrange a photographer! Simply take a look at our private ride packages and give us a call at (970) 657-5463 to customize this experience and make it the highlight of your Colorado vacation.

While grooming and tacking a horse can be fun, it can also pose some physical challenges that simply riding a horse does not. If the person you are booking for is too young to enjoy this experience, you should know that the Stables at Gordon Creek by Tattered Saddle does offer several other horseback adventures throughout the day.

  • Our most popular ride, the “Family-Friendly Trail Ride” is available every hour-and-a-half any day that we are open. It is a one-hour, beginner-friendly horseback ride that will please everyone in your party. It winds through pastures and up and down a few mild hills and, of course, includes a photo opportunity for you and your horse.
  • A more unique experience, while still being beginner-friendly, is the “Sunset Ride.” If you’ve never seen the Colorado sunset from the back of a horse, here’s your opportunity! There are few things more memorable than the sky streaked with color, the grasses blowing around you, and the company of a kind horse.
  • If you are looking for something a bit more challenging, our “Advanced Riding Adventures” are probably more your speed. These trail rides (or arena sessions) are an hour long and give participants a chance to pick up the pace. Riders must pass a brief riding skills check upon arrival to participate. The scenery is still beautiful and you will still get a photo opportunity on the ride.
  • Tattered Saddle offers one of the only meal rides in Eastern Colorado. However, if you are picturing a crumpled brown-bag lunch and a log to sit on, think again: the “Charcuterie Picnic Horseback Ride” is the western, trail-riding equivalent of a fine-dining experience. The picnic is catered by local, professional charcutiers and served at a western-chic tablescape set in a secluded meadow.
