In the middle of a green, secluded field, a picnic table is set with rustic plates and chic glasses. As you enjoy a curated charcuterie picnic, you take in the beautiful mountain scenery and your horses rest nearby. This is the charcuterie picnic horseback ride.
This hour-and-a-half-long adventure is available once a day on Friday, Saturday, and Sundays. The trail ride is beginner friendly, just like the “Family-Friendly Horseback Ride,” and includes approximately 1 hour of horseback riding and 30 minutes dedicated time at the charcuterie picnic ride location.
About The Picnic Meal
Tattered Saddle is proud to be working with the local experts at Get Plattered to provide a revolving selection of artisanal cheeses, cured meats, crackers, fresh produce, nuts, desserts, and more!
The September Charcuterie Selection

If you would prefer a gluten-free or vegetarian charcuterie selection, please inform us when you book your charcuterie horseback ride. Please note that we cannot accommodate for any serious food allergies or guarantee against cross contamination.
The trail ride leaves from the Stables at Gordon Creek in Livermore, Colorado – only 35 minutes from downtown Fort Collins, Colorado and on your way to beautiful Red Feather Lakes, Colorado!
After being helped onto your horse, wranglers will teach you the basics of communicating with your horse: go, stop, left and right – it’s easier than you think! Please note that joining our picnic horseback ride is based on your ability to get on the horse with our instruction, and your willingness to follow direction on the trail. If you think you can do those things, we’ll take care of the rest!

Once everyone is comfortable, the party will set out to enjoy a leisurely horseback ride through the hills and valleys of our property. After approximately 45 minutes on horseback, the ride will stop at a secluded meadow picnic location. Wranglers will help riders down from their horses and lead them to a beautiful tablescape laden with individual charcuterie platters and beverages. After the 30-minute break, the riders will be helped back onto their horses for the return trip to the barn.
Customize this horseback experience
Tattered Saddle is all about turning your ride into your ride.
Want to enjoy your charcuterie at a different time or on a different day than we usually offer? Would you like the ride to be advanced instead of beginner? How about bringing a photographer along to get some professional photos of your adventure? No problem! Simply take a look at our private horseback trail ride packages and give us a call at (970) 657-5463 to customize this experience and make it the highlight of your Colorado vacation.
Other horseback experiences
The charcuterie picnic ride is currently offered twice a day on Friday, Saturday and Sundays. Special accommodations might be made when your trail ride is booked as a private event. However, you should also know that the Stables at Gordon Creek by Tattered Saddle does offer several other horseback adventures throughout the day.
- Our most popular ride, the “Family-Friendly Trail Ride” is available every hour-and-a-half any day that we are open. It is a one-hour, beginner-friendly horseback ride that will please everyone in your party. It winds through pastures and up and down a few mild hills and, of course, includes a photo opportunity for you and your horse.
- If you are looking for something a bit more challenging, our “Advanced Riding Adventures” are probably more your speed. These trail rides (or arena sessions) are an hour long and give participants a chance to pick up the pace. Riders must pass a brief riding skills check upon arrival to participate. The scenery is still beautiful and you will still get a photo opportunity on the ride.
- For those who get a lot of enjoyment out of bonding with and pampering their horse, the “Scratch and Ride” is a great experience. Available only in the mornings, this beginner-friendly trail ride has an extra half-hour built in to allow you to groom and saddle your mount before we even get out of the stable! Don’t know how to do any of these things? No problem! We’ll teach you everything.
- A more unique experience, while still being beginner-friendly, is the “Sunset Ride.” If you’ve never seen the Colorado sunset from the back of a horse, here’s your opportunity! There are few things more memorable than the sky streaked with color, the grasses blowing around you, and the company of a kind horse.
